An overview of how continous data protection works
Freewind Hosting offers all shared and reseller hosting customers with R1Soft’s continuous data protection software solution providing an added layer of security to all customers’ data.
R1Soft’s continuous data protection is an application that performs high performance disk-based data protection for servers running either Windows or Linux operating systems.
R1Soft’s continuous data protection suite comprises of CDP servers and CDP agents, with the agents synchronising snapshots (differential backups) with the CDP servers. The CDP server protects disk volume data from the connected agent machines and stores them at disk level using highly efficient block-level changes.
The synchronisation between the agent and server is fully secured by a PGP key secured TCP/IP network, ensuring that your data is safe in transmission. The data is then compressed and encrypted on the server providing an additional layer of security.
At Freewind Hosting we provide 4x daily backups of your website’s data and store 2 weeks of backups per website – that’s 56 snapshots of your website available to restore with the click of a button!
Control panel integration
Direct access to your backups is provided on all Linux shared and reseller hosting packages through the cPanel control panel. Using the control panel web interface, you can restore individual files, folders or even your entire website using the restore points available.

Continous data protection is fully integrated into the cPanel control panel
Restores are instantaneous – ensuring that your website is back up and running in a matter of seconds.
Bare metal restores
Each recovery point stored on the CDP server is virtually a complete disk image of the agent machine at any given point in time. Each disk image contains boot level information as well as file system formatting and partition tables needed to rebuild the entire server.
In the event of a disaster, a full recovery of the server can be achieved in a matter of hours – not days.
